LaCroix Water – Even My Dogs Wouldn’t Drink It!

John P.

October 9, 2007 By John P.

Lexi Won't Drink LaCroix WaterOk, I know this post sounds sensational, but its not. It’s literal.

I bought a case of LaCroix flavored sparkling water either at Costco or Kroger, I can’t remember which. All it is, is lightly flavored sparkling water and I thought perhaps it might be a more healthy alternative to all of the Coke I drink.

Well, I was wrong. You see, it’s only an “alternative” if you can actually drink it. But I thought this stuff was disgusting! Instead of just throwing it out, I thought I’d give it to my dogs as a treat. But even that didn’t work! One of my dogs drank a little of it, then stopped. The other one took one little taste and then refused to drink another drop!

I’m not kidding, I can’t even get my dog to drink it! And here is the photographic proof. (Click on the photo to see her actually running away from it!)

Lexi Loves Shiner BockNow, lest anyone say that my dogs are “picky”, here they are going to town on some Shiner Bock beer!

The dogs nearly attacked me to get at it when I poured this into the bowl! I mean think about it… 99.9% of the liquid they have consumed in their lives is water! ANYTHING else is a treat… well except for LaCroix water.

I am from Texas, so you could definitely consider me a hick… but the folks at Harvard would argue with you about the quality of my education. :-)

Besides, none of this changes the fact that my dogs wouldn’t drink LaCroix and it still tastes like shit!

Unfortunately, family members don’t feel the same way, so I still have this trash in my fridge. :-(

Awful! Looking for an alternative to diet drinks with artificial sweeteners. This is not it. Almost pure carbonated water. Tasteless!

Yes this stuff is horrible, and no I am not a sugar junkie…..I only drink 5-6 ounces of a clear soda a few times a week and I’m sorry but this stuff tastes like weak Alka-Seltzer….or weak tonic water….its horrible. I think desperately hungry people who are trying to lose weight convince themselves that this no cal drink is the bomb but they must be delirious.

I love La Croix sparkling water. I enjoy all the flavors. It is a natural drink and it is healthy. I do not drink pop or any sugared beverage. I think the people who do not like it are comparing it to sweet garbage drinks that destroy your health.

Something in it that literally makes me sick. Had a similar experience years ago, forgot about it and drank part of a can again again this evening. Started itching all over after a few minutes and within a half hour threw up everything in my stomach. It’s just La Croix (the Cran-Rasberry I believe) I actually like other brands of sparkling water.

I think this crap just tries too hard to be some kind of “soda alternative.” Here’s a great idea, drink water! Out of the tap, even! (Brita filters are amazing) Water tastes better than this garbage and generally feels cleaner anyway.

I came here looking for opinions before I bought this. I am looking for an alternative to replace my ALL TIME FAVORITE sparkling water of Clearly Canadian. I haven’t see it in the US in almost a decade, except I may get lucky and find it in a discount chain, like Big Lots every blue moon. Does it taste anything like CC? If so, I wouldn’t mind wasting the money to try it.

funny article. yes it’s not as good as a Coke. I know I used to drink a six pack a day. As you take in more and more sugar your body gets used to that level much like an alcoholic can drink more than an average person. My point is give it a chance and understand it’s not going to be on par with Coke or Pepsi but you’ll be saving yourself the 42 grams of sugar ! isn’t that the point of drinking this stuff? I love it and now it tastes kind of sweet to me but I’ve been on a low sugar diet for 2 years now and have lost 35 lbs reaching my optimum weight. I feel so much better and have tons of energy so I’ve added Lacroix to the things I enjoy with no downside. Give Lacroix a shot (do it for your health) and stop taking advice from your dogs who think licking themselves is a treat! :)

Personally I love LaCroix. It’s the best when it’s ice cold and freshly open so that when you take the first sip it just fills your belly with a bubbly feeling and stings a little on the way down(but not like alcohol does). Just had to go on 10 hour drive across states and drank a whole cosco bundle.

La croix is a great alternative beverage for those who do not want the additional calories of sodas or the artificial sweeteneres of diet beverages. With zero calories and zero artificial “crap” such as aspartame, La croix is the way to go for me!

i have been drinking La Croix lime for a few years now and I love it! it is acquired taste I’ll admit, but in my opinion, it beats Coca Cola and Pepsi with all the “high fructose corn syrup” and chemicals with names you can’t pronounce. I prefer the natural way, plus it’s yummy!

I love the stuff. You either have a taste for it or you don’t. If you don’t then don’t drink it, but no need to run it down, just because you don’t understand it. I personally DO NOT drink beer in any form or fashion. The just doesn’t taste good to me, but I don’t go running beer companies down. If its your drink of choice then enjoy it.

I find cola products to be disgusting, acidic and upsetting to the stomach.
Why not just eat sugar from the bag?

I wish I would have known about this before I brought four 12 packs of this crud now I have to drink it because my boyfriend told me not to get it and I got it anyway and there is no way that I am going to get an “I told you so” from him so I’m just going to have to drink all of it because I know my kids are not going to help me. Who knows maybe I will learn to like it.

  32. Katarina says

Lacroix is great tasting sparkling water. The taste is wonderful and my kids love it as much as i do. It’s not sweet but has a very nice flavor and smell. the original post seems to be quite ignorant. If you are looking to drink some healthier, no-sugar drink, you need to understand that you have to slowly there gradually, because your taste buds have been trained to hit a lot of sugar.

  33. Shay says

    May 19, 2010 at 8:58 am

Lacroix is the best water! A dog is not going to drink sparkiling water PERIOD!! He doesn’t like all the fizz. Duh? Kinda a no brainer.
Anyway, Evian and Lacroix are essential to my pleasure seeking exixtence. I’m an American living on the Riviera Maya in Mexico and we ship it in by the case load.

  34. Jenny says

I don’t see how water can be “disgusting”–I think you’re overstating a bit. I could see finding it bland, or, perhaps, unsatisfying, but disgusting? That’s like saying ice cubes taste horrific.

I personally love La Croix water, but then again, I haven’t so much as taken a sip of regular soda for 3 years and have been going easy on diet soda for a few months. If you’re used to really sugary soda with artificial flavors and colors, though, you probably won’t care for a drink that’s literally water, CO2, with just a hint of natural flavoring.

Flavored sparkling water is definitely an acquired taste. Some try to taste fruity (yuck.. seem syrupy), others, like La Croix have a more crisp and subtle flavor. I have to say La Croix is my personal favorite Selzer water. I am absolutely an Orange flavored ADDICT. Give me treatment because this water puts a hurt on my pocket book. I buy 12 packs of soda and other beverages at a $2.50 – $3.00 price point. I can never find this stuff for less than $4.50. Talk about price gouging! Heard you can get 24 for $6.99 at Costco, but it doesn’t have Orange flavor. DOH!!!! Does anyone know a good alternative? I’ve tried H2O, but it doesn’t have the carbonated punch that La Croix has. I like heavy carbonation, light crisp flavor. I’d love to find a cheaper product.

LaCroix is fabulous! I used to drink crazy amounts of CokaCola (like 6 cups a day since I worked the restaurant scene and it was free……. Bad) so I started doing half cola & half club soda. At first I didn’t like it at all but after a bit I started finding regular coke too sweet. Then i completely omitted the coke (which is tougher than quitting smoking!…. I think. I never really smoked) and I started buying lemon lime Safeway brand selzer water in the can.

You can get a 6- pack for about $1.50! Then I moved to Florida and Safeway does not exist so I came upon a place called Publix, which is one of the cleanest, friendliest, awesomest grocery stores I’ve ever encountered and low and behold; LaCroix. Naturaly flavored, 0 calories, 0 fat, 0 sodium and no fake sugars! As far as I’m concerned that’s more than anyone could ever ask for in a tast, healthy, carbonated, CocaCola alternative!

I was given a carton of Lacroix “water” last year. Seeing as it has the same name as my Gr Grandmother I decided to sample a taste. My goodness where do they find that water and WHAT are they adding to it. Needless to say the rest of the 5 cans went to the trash immediately.
Yes I think one DOES have to acquire a taste for it. It was worse than medicine. I thought that it was old and had been in the heat some where too long. Genelady

I stumbled onto this blog because I’m desperately trying to find some Lemon La Croix to buy online! My buddy bought ALL the La Croix from the grocery store that i normally go to, and I’m completely torqued off! La Croix is THE alternative to all the Diet Coke I’d normally be consuming otherwise…

La Croix is sooooo damn good, it’s bordering on a wonderous out of body experience! I need some cans of Lemon La Croix right now and I WILL find a 24 hour Ralphs tonight… as of now, it’s turned into a ‘black op’ mission.

An ice-cold, refreshing, effervescent can of La Croix sparkling water is one of the MOST ethereal, delicious, cooling and spiritual drinking experiences one can ever have!

Haha guess I’m not trying that out! I really enjoy the regular water as well, and I try to drink as much as I can throughout the day. Unfortunately that only usually turns out to be about 32-48 fl oz. Not quite as good as the 64 that we’re supposed to be shooting for, but I still think it’s a fair amount. Either that or my bladder is very weak!
