YouTube Went Down!

John P.

January 15, 2008 By John P.

YouTube is DownFolks, I don’t know how something like this could happen, but I’m telling you – YouTube was completely off-line this morning around 9:30am here in Texas. and when I say off-line, I mean entirely.

I noticed it when someone at the office complained that a video wasn’t loading in the blog. Then we tried to go to their homepage, and… nothing. Nothing but an HTTP error at least. We tried on multiple computers too, but it doesn’t really matter because this is the type of error that only the Web servers spit out.

I’m guessing that most people would have missed this outage, but I wonder if anyone else did indeed notice it? It just goes to prove that even the big boys can go down sometimes. Still, it makes me wonder what switch could have been thrown to take down the entire site and all of the videos at once.

I noticed it here in California around lunch time. Saying youtube is down which is part of Google is like saying the Internet is down. Somebody must have been rebooting the Internet at the time. :D

Well I guess that’s the end of the world huh, :-) I’m just happy to get an internet connection most days, sometimes that’s a battle for me. Priorities…

All of Google’s servers had problems yesterday. YouTube was definitely down for a few minutes in the morning, and the main Google site itself was having problems around noontime (Eastern).

Oh I missed that one, I always seem to notice when my sites go down and I don’t add to many youtube video’s on my sites so I wouldn’t of even know it was down if it wasn’t for this blog :D

yes, i noticed it too. it was this afternoon. i got a stalled page that displayed the page without css formatting. then it wouldn’t load at all. then it finally loaded a minute later. it had to be some kind of network/dns issue. that’s a pretty big issue with all the redundancy they have going there.

Oh interesting! I would’ve liked to have seen that. I do know, obviously, that it’s possible for them to go down. Nevertheless it’s a little bit surprising what with the large amount of resources that they have available!
