More OMB Changes

John P.

August 27, 2009 By John P.

Folks, a few more changes for the old blog here today:

  • Removed the MyBlogLog widget. Sorry, but I got sick of it slowing down the page loading time. Plus I just don’t use it any more, so it was time to go.
  • Added new Facebook integration! Now you can log into OMB with your Facebook account! How cool is that? You can also have your comments appear on your Facebook wall and stuff like that.
  • Removed the “Top Commenter” widget. Sorry for those of you who really liked that feature, but it was attracting so many spammers that I just didn’t want to deal with it any more.

Oh, I also added a Facebook Group for OMB, so please join it if you haven’t yet. It’s going to be a good place for us to all chat about stuff without having to do it in the comments here on the blog.

I removed the “Top Commenter” widget from one of my blogs for the same reason. That plugin seemed like a magnet for spammers. However, I do miss the link from your blog.

Can you please tell the steps you used to add facebook connect?

Ok, trying to figure all this out – do we need to log into the blog in order to be connected with FB? No, that’d be silly. So why did you put that feature back on? I got rid of MBL a week or so ago on Hippie Spelunker and replaced it with some Twitter widget, but, didn’t really like that either. My sidebars are kind of barren right now, as I’m making changes and figuring out what I want there.

I’ve seen a lot of people put their FB Fan Page widgets up – I might do that once I get my fan page more populated and filled in with information, my rss feed, and such.

I wonder how many of your recent changes make your ’40 Ways to Power Up Your Blog’ null and void – I’m gonna have to go and review that post again. Would be super cool if you’d update it – if it needs it, that is.
